B*sh: A Natural Disaster

The front page photo at the New York Times (shown at bottom) made me do a double-take. I couldn't figure out for the moment whether the photo was from New Orleans or Iraq.

Got me to thinking, this is what happens when you have incompetence in leadership. Really great troops, volunteers, rescue workers doing the best they can, without any idea of the big picture. And the streets of New Orleans start looking like the streets of Baghdad.

A war of choice. His people ignored and suffering.
I hope these images haunt his dreams.

From KidOakland's diary, Flipping the Rock, today on the Daily Kos. The absurdity of conservatism:
  • Did "big business" save people when they needed help?
  • Did "free markets" save people when they needed food and water?
  • Did "tax cuts for the rich" save people when people needed to evacuate?
  • Did "compassionate conservatism" come to the rescue when people were left stranded
  • Did "Homeland Security" come to the rescue while an American city drowned?
Ponder that awhile. Comments open for viscous rants. (Seems my hiatus was shortlived...)

Potter,
Truly haunting. You're right, the images from the two disasters are starting to blur. I am afraid for you, though, because I know this is what you're thinking of all day. Be sure that Bush is still pissed hes missing the end of his vacation. What a fucking twat.

I am looking forward to your post on 9/11 (you ARE going to do it, right?!?!). For everyone who doesn't know Potter personally, she gave a speech at our college on the Friday after 9/11. It was the first moment that I actually felt comforted, that I felt like the world was not ending. (You wouldn't happen to still have that speech, would you? Shot in the dark...) I don't remember much from that week, but I remember you and that speech.

Peace

Certainly your speech, Potter, would be much more comforting than the Orwellian farce the Pentagon is setting up, called the "Freedom Walk" or something or other, which involves a ton of "security rules," including keeping the press away...

I just have to say, I am completely overwhelmed by the range of love and hate for me and my positions in the past posts' comments. I will make this semi-private comment public, as its Make Potter Emote Day here at the blog.

[In my best angry mother voice] Crazy Middlename Love! Wash your mouth out with soap, young man! We do not accept that kind of language in this (blog). You have offended fucking twats everywhere! (Doesn't quite sound like Mrs. Love, does it??)

Seriously, now, you made my week with this post. I thought everyone had forgotten about that speech, especially since I have very little recollection of even giving it, nonetheless the content of it. What I do remember is that you held me afterwards as I finally broke down. You were there for me when I had no hope. For that I will always be greatful.

This is one of the major reasons why Potter keeps a written journal--I do still have it. And you will get the salient details tmrw when I am coherent again.

Yeah, Karen, there is something maniacal that the higher ups think its STILL a good idea to go on with a concert and fundraising bonanza. For now, I have stopped trying to understand it. The speech cometh in the morning.
